CompTIA Security+ Exam Prep with a Personal Assistant
CompTIA Security+ is one of the most popular entry-level cybersecurity certifications. It proves you understand core security concepts, threats, architecture, operations and governance, and it is vendor-neutral, so the skills apply across tools and platforms.
FoxyCert prepares you for Security+ through a personal 1-to-1 assistant on Telegram. One package, all services included until you pass, and you sit the exam yourself.
What is CompTIA Security+ and who is it for?
Security+ is designed for people starting or moving into security roles: junior security analysts, SOC analysts, systems and network administrators, help desk staff stepping up, and IT auditors who want a technical foundation.
It is frequently listed in job adverts as a baseline security credential and is recognised by many employers and public sector bodies, including for some government roles in the United States.
It also forms a natural base for later certifications such as CompTIA CySA+, PenTest+, CEH and, with experience, CISSP or CISM.
Security+ exam format and domains
The current Security+ exam (SY0-701 at the time of writing) has up to 90 questions in 90 minutes, mixing multiple choice with performance-based questions that ask you to complete tasks in a simulated environment. Scores range from 100 to 900, with 750 required to pass. The objectives cover five domains:
- General Security Concepts
- Threats, Vulnerabilities and Mitigations
- Security Architecture
- Security Operations
- Security Program Management and Oversight
CompTIA refreshes Security+ roughly every three years and publishes retirement dates for old versions. Check which exam code is current and download the official objectives before you start.
Requirements and recommended experience
There are no mandatory prerequisites. CompTIA recommends CompTIA Network+ and around two years of IT administration experience with a security focus, but many candidates pass without them by building hands-on practice into their study. The certification is valid for three years and can be renewed through continuing education.
How to prepare: a Security+ study plan
Most candidates study for 6–10 weeks:
- Weeks 1–2: read the objectives and learn the vocabulary – acronyms matter on this exam.
- Weeks 3–6: work through each domain with a study guide or video course, adding small labs on firewalls, logs, hashing and access control.
- Weeks 7–8: practise performance-based scenarios and timed question sets.
- Final week: full-length practice exams and review of weak objectives.

Frequently asked questions
Is Security+ hard for beginners?
It is achievable for beginners who study consistently, but the breadth of topics and the performance-based questions mean you should not rush. Hands-on practice makes a big difference.
How long does it take to study for Security+?
Six to ten weeks of part-time study is common. People with networking or administration experience often need less.
Do I need Network+ before Security+?
No. It is recommended, not required. If networking basics such as ports, protocols and subnets are new to you, build them into the first weeks of your plan.
Is Security+ worth it in 2026?
It remains one of the most requested entry-level security certifications and is a sensible first step towards CySA+, CISSP or more specialised credentials.
What are performance-based questions on Security+?
They are interactive tasks, such as configuring settings, matching controls to threats or analysing logs. They usually take longer than multiple-choice items, so many candidates flag them and return after answering the quicker questions.
