AIGP AI Governance Exam Prep with a Personal Assistant
The Artificial Intelligence Governance Professional (AIGP) from the IAPP shows you understand how to govern AI responsibly: from risk and ethics to laws, standards and the full AI life cycle. As organisations adopt AI quickly, demand for people who can govern it is growing.
FoxyCert prepares you for the AIGP with a personal 1-to-1 assistant on Telegram. One package, all services included until you pass, and you always sit your own exam.
What is the AIGP and who is it for?
The AIGP suits privacy professionals, legal and compliance teams, risk managers, data and AI product leaders, auditors and technologists who are asked to set up or oversee AI governance programmes. It does not require you to build models, but it does expect you to understand how they are developed, deployed and monitored.
AIGP exam format and body of knowledge
The AIGP exam has typically been 100 multiple-choice questions, a portion of which are unscored, in 2 hours 45 minutes, using the IAPP's scaled scoring. The body of knowledge is organised into domains covering:
- the foundations of AI governance, including AI concepts, risks and responsible AI principles
- how laws, standards and frameworks apply to AI, such as the EU AI Act, data protection law, the NIST AI Risk Management Framework and ISO/IEC 42001
- governing AI development – design, data, training, testing and release
- governing AI deployment and use – procurement, monitoring, incidents and ongoing oversight
The IAPP updates the body of knowledge as regulation evolves. Download the current AIGP body of knowledge and candidate handbook from the IAPP website before you start.
Requirements
There are no formal prerequisites for the AIGP exam. After passing, certification is maintained through continuing privacy education credits and an annual maintenance fee or IAPP membership. Check the IAPP's current certification policies for exact details.
How to prepare: an AIGP study plan
- Weeks 1–2: learn AI and machine learning basics and the main categories of AI risk.
- Weeks 3–4: study the key laws and frameworks and how they classify and treat AI systems.
- Weeks 5–6: work through the AI life cycle, mapping governance controls to each stage.
- Weeks 7–8: practise scenario questions and take timed practice tests.
Candidates with privacy or compliance backgrounds often prepare in 6–8 weeks.
How FoxyCert's 1-to-1 assistant helps
Your personal assistant on Telegram builds your plan, explains AI concepts in plain language for non-engineers, compares regulatory frameworks side by side and reviews your practice results. Support continues until you pass, and you sit the AIGP exam yourself.
Frequently asked questions
Is the AIGP exam hard?
It is broad, combining technical AI concepts with law and governance. Candidates from privacy backgrounds often need extra time on AI technology; technologists often need more time on regulation.
How long should I study for AIGP?
Six to eight weeks of part-time study is common, more if AI concepts or regulatory frameworks are new to you.
Is the AIGP certification worth it in 2026?
With regulations such as the EU AI Act phasing in and organisations adopting management standards like ISO/IEC 42001, AI governance skills are increasingly sought after.
Do I need a technical background for AIGP?
No. You need to understand how AI systems work at a conceptual level, but you will not be asked to write code or train models.
AIGP or AAISM: which should I choose?
AIGP is a broad AI governance credential open to anyone. ISACA's AAISM focuses on AI security management and requires an existing CISM or CISSP.
